Trenitalia // Seasonal App Design Update + GDPR Compliance
I worked on a seasonal visual redesign of the Trenitalia mobile application, incorporating user feedback-driven changes and enhancing functionality. I was responsible for ensuring full compliance with the GDPR privacy laws across the EU and adapting to Italy's new tax breakup and billing regulations. The redesign involved updating the design language, integrating new interactive elements, and creating fresh assets for the application.
Some of the challenges when redesign this where:
User Interface Complexity (Existing App)
TBC (Ticket Booking Complexity). Ticket booking involves multiple steps, including seat selection, payment, and confirmation. This complexity can lead to user drop-offs.
Handling sensitive user data, such as payment information and travel itineraries, requires robust security measures to protect against data breaches.
Ensuring the app is accessible to users with disabilities is crucial but often overlooked.
While redesigning the following steps and choices where made to solve all the issues that was raised before and making it future proof.
Employed user-centered design principles to simplify the interface. Prioritize essential functions and create clear navigation paths. Use intuitive icons and labels to guide users. Consider user testing and feedback to refine the UI.
Streamline the booking process with a step-by-step approach. Use autofill and suggestions to reduce user input. Provide clear pricing and payment options. Implement a guest checkout for quicker bookings.
Implemented encryption for data transmission and storage. Comply with relevant data protection regulations (GDPR) and regularly audit and update security protocols. Educated users on safe practices.
Followed accessibility guidelines (WCAG) to make the app usable for people with disabilities. Included features like voice commands, screen readers, and adjustable font sizes.
